KPC3+ with Peet Brothers Weather Station + Digipeater + Telemetry!

November 14, 2009

This project is part of the 'Intertie, Incorporated' System of Texas and is to be placed at Pandale,Tx on the Texas-Mexican border. Here is a 'cheat sheet/data' to do this.

Equipment: Peet Brothers Ultimeter 2000/2100 (cheap on ebay $100-$200), KPC3+, Cables, 2 meter radio, power supply.

This is an initialization file for configuring the KCP3+ for K5DRT-1/weather station + digipeater and telemetry. If you copy this file and as an ascii and upload using Windows HyperTerminal, you will have a complete setup! Notice: all lines with the ( ) will  be ignored.

Setup for Windows HyperTerminal:  9600 baud, 8N1 for the KPC3+

Under 'file/properties'/ascii setup change line delay to 200ms and character delay to                                                                    10ms

To send this file, click on 'transfer'then 'send text file'.

If you start the KPC3+ / NEW or from 'restore d', then at the 'CMD' prompt do:

                                  mycall xxxxxx

                                  intface terminal

You can download your setup by typing 'display'.

CABLES

      Peet Wx-RJ45/6pin to Db9M, Peet Ultimeter 2000 data-2400 baud, 8N1

      RJ45, pin 3(data) to Db9, pin 2

      RJ45, pin 5(gnd) to Db9, pin 6

RJ45 pin out- looking at the front of the plug, latch down, pin 1 is on the right

Computer serial/Db25-KPC3, pin 2(data in), pin 3(data out), pin 7 gnd

      RADIO to KPC3+, Db9M, pin 1.mic 3.ptt 5.disc (open SQ) 6.gnd

Make another cable to the KPC3, Db9, pin 2/XCD and pin 6 to a DB9F, pin 2data pin 6 gnd. This is the weather plugin. By using the command 'gpsport 2400 normal nocheck', this turns on the KPC3/DB9, pin 2 for the weather data input. This lets you use the Db25 for computer programming without having to switch between weather and programming......plug /unplug.

Be sure to use '!!' for GPSHEAD. Do not use modem mode, complete record mode or packet mode [$ULTW] in the Ultimeter 2000.If you use the above, you will be in trouble if you have a power outage.

TELEMETRY  ***[// NO VOLTAGE OVER 5 VOLTS \\]***

Look up on the Internet http://home.teleport.com/~n3eg/kpc3telem.html for more info.

Programming- 'telemetry 200' = beacon every 33 min.

                  'range 0:25.0/0:25.0/-490:440/....'

An 0=0 to 25.0v DC power supply

An 1=0 to 1, Inside ALARM, 1=OK,0=Alarm,lights on

                  An 2= LM335 inside temperature

                  An 3=

TELEMETRY 1. 12.0V, 0 or 1 Alarm, 3.INSIDE TEMP., 4.0, 5.0

Peet Power Supply [OVP]

For safety of the Peet Brothers weather station, I cut the 12v trace in the junction box and put a series diode (1N4005), ferrite bead then a 150uF to ground. Also, a 16v, 1/2w zenner across the capacitor. The wallwart is a 9v, 400 ma and not the regular 12v. Most 12v P.S. put out about 15-17v.
